The ability to effectively negotiate in stressful circumstances is a skill which is essential to every humanitarian worker: from the field-based aid worker negotiating access on the frontline to the manager in headquarters talking to donors and governments.
Objective
The Clingendael humanitarian negotiation training aims to enhance the negotiating capacity ofhumanitarian workers.
Training approach
Our approach is hands-on, introducing negotiation theory to help you in your practice. Specially designed simulations allow you to immediately apply newly acquired tools and insights. Participants have been especially positive about our interactive approach with a lot of space for debriefing and learning from each other’s experience.
Since 2017, Clingendael Academy has trained over 450 humanitarian workers of 60+ (I)NGOs and UN agencies in essential negotiation skills.
Practical information
- Working language is English;
- Preference is giving to candidates working in Lebanon or the region.
- Given the highly interactive nature of the Clingendael training method, the maximum number of participants per training is 20.
- Training will take place in Beirut, on 24, 25 and 26 March, 2020.

Fee information:
Clingendael covers the training fees and costs for the training venue including lunch. Humanitarian organisations are expected to cover travel and accommodation costs of their participating staff. Clingendael does not provide this. In exceptional circumstances some financial assistance is available.
