About the Course
This training will focus on practical information and strategies for partnership building for NGOs, focused on local and small-scale national organizations to build the capacity for winning funds and donors, as well as how to work with respective international partners on humanitarian programs. Using real-life examples and highly interactive methods, the training will give small NGOs the necessary background and information needed to better equip staff with communication and partnership tools. By building the capacity of local and national level humanitarian staff, it will allow for them to better understand processes such as due diligence, donor mapping, and organizational communications, among a few of the topics addressed.
Training Objective
The objective of the course is to introduce the basics and specifics relevant to the topic of partnerships, which will enable participants to better understand the process of winning funding, communicating with donors and building lasting partnerships with bigger NGOs/INGOs. The overall objective is to the give participant the long-term foundations for effective communications, information about partnership processes, and educate staff on the most beneficial practices to secure funds and work alongside other partners on humanitarian programs.
Training Outcomes
By the end of the training, participants should be able to:
- Identify and map key partners for humanitarian response including donors, implementing partners, capacity building support
- Write effective introductory emails and produce organizational communications (Facebook, Twitter, factsheets, and brochures) for international partners
- Understand due diligence/partnership assessments and prepare materials to ensure they are successful in them
- Map key meeting points/coordination bodies for making new partnerships
- Role-Play scenarios in which partners are important in humanitarian response (i.e. meetings, field visits, reports)
Intended Audience
The intended audiences for this workshop are smaller national NGOs, local NGOs, civil society organizations, right organizations, community-based organizations and local municipalities.
Participants are required to have a good/strong knowledge of English for this workshop.
About the Trainer
Poppy Hardee
Poppy is a Humanitarian Capacity Building Manager and Trainer with Save the Children International, with specific experience in Program management (implementing through local partners) and Institutional Fundraising. She has an MA in International Conflict Analysis from the University of Kent, UK and has 8 years of fundraising and project management experience in humanitarian contexts including Palestine, Lebanon, Sierra Leone, Somalia and the Philippines. She has worked for CAFOD, ACTED, Terre des Hommes Italia, UNICEF and Save the Children. She has successfully won funding from ECHO, EU, DFID, USAID, UNICEF and UNHCR. She has further worked in national NGOs and research Institutes in Palestine and has always been committed to building local staff capacities in order to encourage home grown responses and locally owned projects.
